Above: The fire department received the alarm at 7.46 PM.

The empty warehouse, which is situated outside the walls of Kakola prison, was set on fire on Sunday evening. The fire is believed to be an act of arson, since the area is fenced and there weren't any ignition products kept in the building.

The damping-down operations continued until this morning. The fire was in control by the evening and there was no immediate fire spreading danger.

The police is still investigating how the fire started. Three young boys, aged 10-12, were seen leaving the empty building on Kakola hill on Sunday evening at 7.30 pm. The boys might have information about the fire and the police is appealing for help from the public. If you have any information, please call the following number: 050-4562 200.

The fire caused heavy smoke and the residents in the area were advised to keep the windows and the air conditioners shut.

The residents were not in danger and no one in the area was evacuated. The Kakola prison, which is a culturally and historically significant building, was in no danger.

The Southwest Finland Rescue Services received the alarm at 7.46 pm on Sunday evening.
